What Is Narrative Analysis?
Narrative analysis is the study of how a token's story resonates across social platforms. It answers questions like:
—Does this token have a compelling hook?
—Are real communities forming around it, or is it just bots?
—Which KOLs are talking about it, and what's their track record?
—Is the narrative original or a copy of a previous winner?
Why Narrative Beats Charts
A memecoin's value is 90% narrative and 10% everything else. Consider:
—$WIF succeeded because of a strong, relatable mascot and organic community spread
—$BONK leveraged the community revenge narrative against VCs
—$PEPE capitalized on a pre-existing internet culture phenomenon
In every case, the narrative existed before the price pump. Technical indicators only confirmed what the narrative already signaled.
The Narrative Tier List
Not all narratives are equal. Here's how to mentally rank them:
S-Tier: Direct tweet from Elon, Toly, Trump, or another globally recognised figure. A major company product launch. Breaking geopolitical or economic news.
A-Tier: A viral meme from a large account (500k+ followers). A mid-cap celebrity mention. A trending topic with real cultural momentum.
B-Tier: A crypto-native KOL shill. A niche cultural moment with a dedicated but limited audience.
C-Tier and below: Recycled narratives, tokens named after old memes, or anything where you have to explain why it's relevant.
Only trade S and A-tier narratives as core positions. B-tier can work but keep sizing small. Never put real money on C-tier.
How to Evaluate Narrative
Beware of Larps
There are many larps in the market. All the larps commonly use fake products and websites to lure people into buying the token. In these cases, the product is mostly not functional at all.

Spotting Manufactured Narratives
Not every trending narrative is organic. There are groups that coordinate fake hype:
—Coordinated shill campaigns: Multiple accounts posting about the same token at the same time, often with suspiciously similar language
—Fake influencer endorsements: Screenshots of tweets that don't actually exist, or accounts impersonating real influencers
—Astroturfed trending: Buying Twitter/X trending placement or using bot networks to manufacture social proof
Athena Alpha checks the source account's authenticity, follower/engagement ratio, and post history to flag these. Pay attention to the source credibility section of the scan. A viral tweet from a 2-week-old account with 200 followers is not a narrative. It's a trap.
Timing the Narrative
The same narrative can be a 10x trade or a total loss depending on when you enter.
—First 0 to 10 minutes: Highest risk, highest reward. Only for fast movers with high conviction.
—10 to 30 minutes: Price discovery phase. Watch for stabilisation. If the token holds and volume is sustained, this is often the best risk-adjusted entry.
—30 to 120 minutes: Late entry. Only worth it if the narrative is getting second-wave coverage (news pickup, major accounts reposting).
—After 2 hours: You are almost certainly late. The early buyers are looking for exit liquidity.
Narrative strength also decays over time. A tweet that was trending 6 hours ago is old news.
